I disagree with your opinion that the $210 replacement is motivated by greed. I've had 3 different bench jewelers since I bought my business and I can tell you they are not all created equal. My current jeweler is the best of the bunch...and he charges more for his work. That's it...plain and simple. Is he greedy? In my opinion...no...he's not. He realizes his worth and isn't shy about it. I like that confidence...it's what I want when he's setting someone's diamond.

I've seen more jewelers do their own work and charge less than we do...and their work is awful. Ultimately...not every jeweler is created equal. (In fact...I went through some GIA bench training to learn how to set diamonds and size rings. After a sizable investment the only thing I really learned is that I have no business sitting at a jewelry bench.)

Still love the blog though.
